Azim Premji University (APU) was established in Karnataka by the Azim Premji University Act 2010 as a not-for-profit University and is recognized by The University Grants Commission under Section 2F.  The State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT), Telangana, collaborated with APU to deliver an English Language Enrichment Certificate Course (ELEC) for elementary teachers of government schools of Telangana.

The Challenge / Requirements

APU approached TriByte to develop an online interactive learning platform to deliver the English Language Enrichment Course

By the end of the 9-week course, teachers will be able to express themselves in English with more confidence. This included multiple Live sessions blended with seven weeks online tasks/assignments estimated to be 4 hours each week. Additionally, the requirement was such that Mentors and Mentees would get connected closely (Group sessions, as well as 1:1) for all the activities of the course. Access was to be provided to the Mentors to be able to monitor the mentees throughout the course.

The TriByte Solution

  • TriByte created a White-labelled LMS, with custom workflows to meet specific requirements of a sequenced progression. Some highlights are:
Course and Topic Scheduling: Course was scheduled in such a manner where the student can view only the module of that particular week, and needs to complete the assignment within the defined time frame.
  • Task Management: Mentor was able to assign a Task to multiple batches in a single instance, while ensuring that the corresponding submission by the student would be visible only to their corresponding batch.
  • Audio based Assignments: For each activity Mentees are expected to record the audio in their own voice and upload it in the respective task
  • Gamification: Mentee scored points for participation and commenting in forums. The point scoring was by leveraging the rule-based engine of the LMS
  • Reflective Journal (Private Interaction Log): Participant can log the activities during the course journey and mentor monitors the participant logs and comment on it to motivate and support the mentees individually when needed.

The Outcomes & Impact

The program was a phenomenal success with 95 % completion rate. The students benefitted by soon developing confidence in using English for day to day conversation both inside and outside the classroom.
